Ada Cavendish
The Dazzling Ada Cavendish
Three pairs of shoes featured in the Last & Slipper collection were memorialized by artist T.W. Grieg in part because they were worn on stage by actress Ada Cavendish (1847-1895). Although she performed mainly in the United Kingdom, in 1878 she opened on boardway including her role as Lady Teazle, where she wore the fabulous eau-de-nil pumps we offer in Last & Slipper.
THE REFINED ADA CAVENDISH
A richly toned example of late 19th-century theatrical design, this bronze slipper reflects the ornamental character of the Victorian stage. With its sculpted heel, gathered rosette, and jeweled buckle, it speaks to a period in which even the smallest elements of costume carried narrative weight.
The Enchanting Ada Cavendish
In an era that prescribed roles carefully, Ada Cavendish chose her own. The stage became not only her profession, but a site of self-definition—where composure, discipline, and quiet resolve shaped a presence unmistakably her own.
